one6G Forges the Path to 6G Intelligent Fabrics at the 44th GTI Workshop during MWC Barcelona

As the global mobile industry gathered for MWC Barcelona 2026, the one6G Association further solidified its strategic partnership with GTI by playing a prominent role in the 44th GTI Workshop. Held from February 28 to March 1, the workshop served as a high-level forum for industry leaders to synchronize on the evolution of 5G-Advanced and the burgeoning architecture of 6G.

Representing one6G, Vice-Chair Narcís Cardona, Director of the Research Institute at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, delivered a compelling presentation that bridged the gap between today’s 5G deployments and the future’s “intelligent system fabrics.”

A Vision Beyond Connectivity

During his session, Prof. Cardona detailed one6G’s positioning on the core conception of 6G technology. He emphasized that 6G must be viewed not merely as a faster version of its predecessor, but as a natively integrated fabric of communication, sensing, computing, and AI.

“one6G envisions 6G as an intelligent system fabric designed to support autonomous and cyber–physical systems,” Cardona stated. “Beyond enhanced connectivity, 6G is expected to provide environmental awareness and programmable control, enabling new classes of services in robotics, healthcare, and digital twins.”

The Strategic Evolution: From KPIs to Goal-Oriented Success

A central theme of the presentation was the transition from connectivity-centric networks to goal-oriented systems. While legacy networks (4G/5G) focus on optimizing network Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like throughput and latency, one6G argues that 6G performance should be measured by application-level success.

Key Pillars of the one6G Evolution:

  • AI-Native & Composable Networks: Moving from AI-assisted loops to networks where learning and distributed decision-making are architectural elements.

  • Cognitive Control: Connectivity becomes a programmable resource governed by “intent” and shared knowledge.

  • Bounded Authority: AI agents will operate across multiple time scales, coordinating actions within policy-defined constraints to ensure safety and reliability.

Enterprise Networks: The First Frontier of 6G

Aligning with the GTI Workshop’s focus on enterprise solutions, Prof. Cardona highlighted that private enterprise networks are the natural early adopters of the one6G vision.

In this context, enterprise networks will evolve from simple private 5G deployments into perception-aware systems. one6G is currently developing evaluation frameworks and experimental validations in high-impact fields, including:

  1. Robotics: For autonomous coordination in dynamic environments.

  2. e-Health: Enabling remote, high-precision medical interventions.

  3. Industrial Digital Twins: Creating a seamless link between physical assets and their digital counterparts.

Collaboration for Global Standards

As an MoU partner of GTI, one6G continues to operate upstream of standardization. By translating emerging concepts into evaluable technologies and use cases, the association provides critical insights to IMT-2030, ETSI, and 3GPP.

The participation in the 44th GTI Workshop underscores the importance of global cooperation in defining a 6G ecosystem that is not only technologically superior but also business-ready for the enterprise challenges of the next decade.
