one6G participation in specialized workshops at IEEE MeditCom 2026
Global telecommunications experts, including one6G representatives, recently wrapped up IEEE MeditCom 2026, held from July 6 to July 9, 2026, on the shores of Cagliari, Sardinia. As a premier IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) event, the conference convened top researchers to address the technical requirements of next-generation wireless systems and the roadmap to 6G.
As commercial 5G reaches maturity worldwide, MeditCom served as a key meeting point for industry bodies and European 6G initiatives driving the transition to IMT-2030 standardizations.
Specialized Workshops Highlight AI & Non-Terrestrial Networks
A primary focus of the conference’s four-day schedule was its dedicated workshop program. one6G representatives were heavily involved in two workshops:
-
WS1: Collaborative Edge Intelligence for Non-Terrestrial Communication Networks
Co-chaired by Mona Ghassemian (Huawei, UK) and Ayman Radwan (University of Aveiro, Portugal), the workshop addressed the fusion of satellite-terrestrial infrastructures, Space-Air-Ground Integrated Networks (SAGIN), and distributed edge computing to provide seamless, ultra-reliable coverage.
-
WS2: Green & Trustworthy Semantic-Native 6G Networks
Co-chaired by Mona Ghassemian (Huawei, UK) and Ayman Radwan (University of Aveiro, Portugal), the workshop explored semantic-native communications—transmitting context and intent over raw data streams—to drastically lower energy footprints while integrating trust and security into protocol stacks.
Paving the Road to Global 6G Frameworks
Throughout the week, participating researchers and project consortia engaged in panel sessions on cloud-native orchestration, Open RAN architecture, and AI-driven networking. The technical consensus gathered in Cagliari will feed directly into upcoming white papers, standard contributions, and major events—including the annual one6G Summit 2026 scheduled for September.
