one6G co-organizes a panel “6G, AI-Native and Beyond” at FCN 2025

On August 19, 2025, one6G co-hosted a panel titled “6G, AI-native and Beyond” at the International Conference on Future Communications and Networks (FCN 2025) in Belgrade, Serbia. The panel was jointly organized by the one6G Work Item 216 “6G Empowering Robotics,” the NetworldEurope SME Working Group, and euRobotics.

The panel was moderated by Dr. Susanna Schwarzmann (Huawei), who guided the discussions of leading experts from academia and industry. The panel examined the transformative potential of an AI-native 6G network design. The panelists were Prof. Shugong Xu (Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University), Dr. Pouria Sayyad Khodashenas (i2Cat Foundation), Dr. Latif Ladid (the IPv6 Forum and the European IPv6 Task Force), Dr. Geoffrey Ye Li (Imperial College London), and Zarko Dasic (A1 Serbia). They shared their insights on the opportunities and challenges ahead during short pitch presentations. While emphasizing the many open challenges that remain, the panelists agreed that AI-native 6G holds promise for capabilities such as self-optimization, energy awareness, resilience, and adaptiveness to human and machine needs.

A key outcome of the session was a consensus on the need for closer collaboration between vertical industries, network operators, and academic researchers. In particular, participants highlighted the importance of jointly addressing the design and evaluation of AI algorithms (considering performance, energy efficiency, adaptability, and complexity) and the availability of realistic operator data for training and validating these solutions. The discussion also explored the emergence of new business models in the 6G era, such as integrated sensing and communication.
