5 Years of Shaping the 6G Future: Celebrating Our Milestone Anniversary

Five years ago, on March 29, 2021, we embarked on an ambitious journey to evolve, test, and promote the next generation of cellular and wireless technology. Today, as we conclude Q1 2026, the one6G Association proudly celebrates its fifth anniversary. What began as a shared vision has matured into a dynamic global ecosystem, and we are thrilled to reflect on how far we have come in shaping the future of wireless communications.

Since our launch, we have reached incredible milestones thanks to the dedication of our members:

• A Growing Global Community: We have reached a significant international membership base, bridging the gap between ICT excellence, diverse verticals, and academic research.

• Active Technical Leadership: Our 4 Working Groups continue to drive the research agenda, now overseeing over 25 active Work Items that push the boundaries of 6G innovation.

• A Wealth of Knowledge: To date, we have released 18 papers, providing the industry with critical insights into prototyping, robotic applications, and the transformative potential of next-gen networks.

• Standardization Impact: We have maintained a strong voice in global policy, providing key contributions to the ITU-R’s “IMT Vision for 2030 and Beyond” and continuing to shape the international roadmap for 6G.

• Global Collaboration: We have successfully organized five editions of the one6G Summit, most recently gathering in Bologna, Italy, to dive deep into the complexities of 6G standardization.

Looking Ahead: The Drive Toward Implementation

While we celebrate this half-decade of progress, one6G remains firmly focused on the future. As the transition from vision to implementation gains momentum, our agenda for the coming months is packed with opportunities for collaboration:

• one6G Open Lecture 12: Our educational series continues to thrive. Mark your calendars for April 23, 2026, for our next lecture: “Experimental Technologies for 6G: Toward Network Intelligence.”

• The Path to London: We are excited to announce that our flagship event, the one6G Summit 2026, will take place in London on September 10-11. This will be an unmissable opportunity to exchange ideas and advance the 6G agenda as we move closer to reality.

• Strategic Vision: Our Chair, Prof. Nancy Alonistioti, shares her perspective on the key milestones of the past five years and outlines our strategic priorities for the next phase of 6G development.

As we enter our sixth year, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our members and partners. Your continued commitment is the engine driving one6G’s mission forward. The journey is far from over—let’s continue shaping the future of wireless together!
