one6G Summit 2024 – event report
The fourth edition of the one6G Summit took place on September 5-6, 2024, in Valencia, Spain. Collocated with the IEEE PIMRC 2024, the one6G Summit 2024 gathered 39 expert speakers, 20 exhibitors, and an audience of nearly 200 6G enthusiasts from a variety of backgrounds. Hosted at the famous Palacio de Congresos de Valencia, a state-of-the-art conference center designed by Norman Foster, the one6G Summit has once again proved itself as the venue for in-depth discussions about the key drivers and technological pillars that will shape 6G.
The one6G Summit 2024 brought together major stakeholders from international industry forums, national and regional policymakers, and academics from renowned research institutes who gathered in Valencia to explore how technology, business, and policy approaches will converge to lead us toward a hyper-connected world. Under the theme “Together, we shape 6G,” the event featured six thematic sessions filled with expert presentations and discussions, two exhibitors’ demo pitches sessions, and networking on stage and offstage.
On Day 1, followed by the opening remarks by Nancy Alonistioti, one6G Chair & Associate Professor at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the event covered global 6G development with presentations about the progress and perspectives in Finland, China, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Spain, the 3GPP & ETSI standardization updates, and a panel discussion touching on the foreseen role of one6G in the global development of 6G, the strategies aimed at reducing the digital divide in the 6G era, the expected role of 6G in supporting disaster scenarios and emergencies, as well as environmental considerations, among other related topics.
On day 2, following the keynote speech by Narcís Cardona, one6G Vice-Chair & Director of iTEAM at theTechnical University of Valencia, the invited ICT experts discussed the progress and challenges on the path to 6G standardization, while the experts from different vertical industries, including but not limited to robotics, health, and automotive, shared their recommendations for 6G use cases and requirements. After the lunch break, a session on cutting-edge technologies took place, followed by a session focused on highlighting the work performed within the one6G Association. In addition to technical sessions, on day 2, the exhibitors were given an opportunity to pitch their demos to the one6G Summit 2024 audience on the main event stage, after which the one6G Summit 2024 audience was encouraged to select the best demonstrations. The three winners were announced during the Best Demo Award ceremony.
Besides providing a rich technical program, during the one6G Summit 2024, the Association released two White Papers, i.e., “6G and eHealth: Cases and Service Requirements” and the 4th edition of the “6G Technology Overview,” and signed an MoU with euRobotics.
