On June 22, 2023, one6G WG1 Chair, Prof. Mohammad Shikh-Bahaei chaired and moderated an Industry Track Panel ‘Wireless Futures’ at the 2023 IEEE 97th Vehicular Technology Conference: VTC2023-Spring. The panel featured six renewed experts on wireless communication, namely Wen Tong (Huawei), Sumei Song (Institute for Infocomm Research), Harald Haas, (pureLifi), Christos Masouros (University College London), Rahim Tafazolli (University of Surrey), and Lajos Hanzo (University of Southampton). It served as a great opportunity to discuss the objectives, key technology trends affecting the development of the next generation of commercial wireless standards and future solutions, challenges to wireless technology, and pathways toward a wireless future that serves the society.

 

Prof. Mohammad Reza Shikh-Bahaei’s biography

Prof. Mohammad Reza Shikh-Bahaei is the chair of Working Group 1, representing one6G in the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), among others. He has been engaged in research in the area of wireless communications for 27 years both in academic and industrial organizations. He has worked for start-ups on statistical signal processing for interference cancellation, network planning, and optimization of wireless networks. In 2000, he joined National Semiconductor Corp. (NSC), CA, USA, (now part of Texas Instruments) and has worked within a team on the design of 3rd generation handsets based on UMTS standards, for which he has been awarded three US patents as inventor and co-inventor, respectively. He returned to the UK in March 2002 as a Lecturer at King’s College London, and he is now a full Professor of Telecommunications in the Department of Engineering, King’s College London. He is an IET Fellow, Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy, and a Senior Member of IEEE.

The 2023 IEEE 97th Vehicular Technology Conference: VTC2023-Spring was held in Florence, Italy on June 20-23, 2023. This semi-annual flagship conference of IEEE Vehicular Technology Society brought together individuals from academia, government, and industry to discuss and exchange ideas in the fields of wireless, mobile, and vehicular technology. The event featured world-class plenary speakers, tutorials, as well as technical and application sessions, and an innovative Industry Track, which featured panels and presentations delivered by industry leaders.
