For the fourth time, one6G has submitted its contribution to the “IMT Vision for 2030 and Beyond.” one6G’s input will contribute to shaping the ITU-R recommendation on IMT-2030 — the vision recommendation for the next generation of mobile communication systems.
This contribution is related to 6G for robotics, as 6G capabilities could fundamentally change how robotics and its applications could be designed with new communication system capabilities including radio-based sensing, as summarised in the recently published position paper.
The position paper argues that 6G technology will play a vital role in supporting the growing demand for robotics applications in different scenarios and applications. While 5G communication systems have begun to pave the way for enabling robotic applications based on wireless communications, 6G will be needed to support higher density of secure communication links (including inter-robot and intra-robot communication) with stringent performance requirements, ensure service availability at almost all times, everywhere, provide highly accurate environment awareness, support highly dynamic Quality of Service adaptation mechanisms to ensure safety when in close proximity with humans, and enhance sensing capabilities to assist in decision-making.
one6G contributions to IMT Vision for 2030 and beyond till date
The first contribution submitted by one6G covered the 6G vision , specifically from the use cases perspective, including the societal and environmental aspects. The second input, summitted in March 2022, looked more in-depth into the requirements of different vertical domains and some of the enabling technologies, which will play the key role in building 6G. In the past few months, one6G had further insights into the requirements and 6G enabling technology pillars, which were now shared with ITU-R. The one6G Association will continue to provide further contributions to the IMT Vision for 2030 and beyond, as invited by the ITU-R. The third contribution was submitted to ITU-R WP 5D June meeting (June 13-24), and one6G also participated the IMT for 2030 and beyond workshop of WP 5D held on June 14, 2022, where one6G presented 6G use cases and enabling technologies, as well as provided suggestions and recommendations for further extensions of the IMT 2030 vision.
About IMT Vision for 2030 and beyond
The ITU-R’s Working Party 5D (WP 5D) commenced its work on the recommendation “IMT Vision for 2030 and beyond” in March 2021. IMT Vision for 2030 and beyond is being developed with the aim to drive the industries and administrations to encourage further development of IMT by defining the framework and overall objectives of the future development of IMT, including the role IMT could play to meet the needs of future societies. As the work on the recommendation is in progress, WP 5D invites the views of external organizations on the IMT, including but not limited to, user and application trends, the evolution of IMT, usage scenario, capabilities and framework, and objectives.
