one6G Engages with ETSI to Strengthen Collaboration on ISAC and THz Communications

The one6G Association has recently responded to liaison statements from ETSI, expressing support and readiness for deeper collaboration with the newly launched ETSI Industry Specification Group (ISG) on Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) and the ISG on Terahertz (THz) communications. These engagements underscore one6G’s commitment to advancing 6G technologies by leveraging synergies with key stakeholders in the ecosystem.

Advancing ISAC: A Strategic Alignment

In its response to the establishment of ETSI ISG ISAC, one6G highlighted the alignment between ETSI’s efforts and one6G Working Groups, particularly WG1 (focused on use cases, KPIs, and market scenarios) and WG2 (with a technical work item on ISAC). The Association emphasized the importance of ISAC in enabling new applications such as robotic automation in logistics, healthcare, and disaster recovery. one6G referenced its in-depth research, detailed in its white and position papers. The Association looks forward to continuing this exchange, offering its insights and leveraging ETSI ISG ISAC’s outputs to refine its ongoing research activities and publications.

Strengthening THz Research and Applications

Regarding ETSI ISG THz’s recently published Group Reports (GR THz 001 and GR THz 002), one6G commended their comprehensive coverage of THz communications and its role in 6G. The Association emphasized its contributions to the development of these reports, particularly in addressing use cases such as robotic operations and situational awareness through THz sensing. one6G reiterated the critical importance of a sustainable and efficient approach to resource allocation in THz systems, advocating for solutions tailored to the specific requirements of robotic interactions. Its research highlights the role of THz in bridging gaps in 5G capabilities, especially in areas requiring ultra-low latency, high data rates, and advanced computational offloading. The Association remains committed to exploring these challenges through detailed analyses of use cases and system requirements, particularly for scenarios involving disaster recovery and navigation in complex environments.

Looking Ahead: Collaborative Opportunities

one6G values the collaborative exchange with ETSI ISGs, seeing these interactions as vital for shaping the next generation of wireless communication systems. By providing insights from its Working Groups and technical studies, one6G aims to contribute to ETSI’s ongoing efforts. As the journey toward 6G progresses, partnerships like these will play a pivotal role in ensuring the technology meets the diverse and complex demands of future applications.
