one6G Contributes to the ITU-R Vision for 2030 and Beyond
one6G has submitted its first contribution to the ITU-R, responding to a request for input to the “IMT Vision for 2030 and Beyond.” one6G’s input will contribute to shaping the ITU-R recommendation on IMT-2030 — the vision recommendation for the next generation of mobile communication systems.
ITU-R Working Party 5D (WP 5D) has started to develop a new draft recommendation “IMT Vision for 2030 and beyond” at their March 2021 meeting. The recommendation aims to drive the industries and administrations to encourage further development of IMT and will define the framework and overall objectives of the future development of IMT, including the role that IMT could play to better serve the needs of future societies. To develop the draft of this new recommendation, WP 5D invited the views of external organizations on the IMT, including but not limited to, user and application trends, the evolution of IMT, usage scenario, capabilities and framework, and objectives.
The first contribution of the one6G Association covers the 6G vision, specifically from use cases perspective, including the societal and environmental aspects, emphasizing that the new systems must be a part of the solution bringing us closer to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN. The contribution describes six specific use case domains where the one6G association expects 6G technologies to play a crucial role. “We are thankful for the opportunity to contribute to such a relevant recommendation. Supporting global 6G research and standardization efforts is of great importance to one6G Association,” said one6G Chairwoman, Prof. Nancy Alonistioti.
The one6G Association intends to provide further contributions to the IMT Vision for 2030 and beyond as invited by the ITU-R in 2022.
